There are so many women who have experienced vaginal itching. While it is nothing to be ashamed off, it has to be taken seriously because delay can cause more negative effects. Here are some of the causes of vaginal itching in women.
1 Candidiasis
Candidiasis is also known as vaginal yeast infections. It is caused by the fungus candida.
Someone who is suffering from candidiasis will experience swelling, itching and irritation. According to mayo clinic, 3 out of every 4 women will have experienced vaginal yeast infection at some point in their lives.
This yeast infection can be caused by pregnancy, side effects of taking some antibiotics or may be picked up by a woman when she urinates in dirty public toilets. In addition to itching, yeast infection also produces a thick white and cheesy discharge.

2 Bacterial Vaginosis
Normally, the vagina contains healthy bacteria. But when something upsets the balance of the vagina’s normal bacteria or when the wrong bacteria finds its way there and starts growing, vaginal itching may result. In addition to itches, bacteria vaginosis is accompanied by inflammation, burning and a fishy odour.
3 Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
Vulva and vaginal itches can also be caused by STD s such as gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, genital warts, genital herpes, and chlamydia. As the name implies it is transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person.
4 Irritation from chemicals
There are so many products out there that are being marketed as “good for vaginal health” some of this products may cause irritation when used by women and vaginal itches will result. Chemical substances from soaps, scented toilet tissue paper, creams, condoms, douches and contraceptive foams can cause irritation.
5 Menopause
Vagina itches can come during menopause. This is because the drop in estrogen production that occurs at menopause can cause the vaginal walls to be thin and dry which leads to itching and irritation.
